Worthington Farmers Market: March 28th

"Soil is a living ecosystem, and is a farmer's most precious asset. A farmer's productive capacity is directly related to the health of his or her soil"

- Howard Warren Buffett

Spring 2015 Issue of Edible Columbus:  Good Food, Great Business

The latest issue of Edible Columbus is jam packed with some great articles on several of our farmers here at the Worthington Farmers Market!

Come pick up your complimentary issue at the Worthington Farmers Market this Saturday, March 28th, while our supplies last!

Enjoy reading a great story about how Janell Baran and Peter Kuhlman, of Blue Owl Hollow Tree Farm and Garden Emporium farm with their unique setup located just outside of Newark, Ohio, in the "Farming a Forest" article by Colleen Leonardi, pages 30 to 33.

Read the articles in the "Where Are They Now?" spread on pages 48 to 52, by Coleen Leonardi. In this spread, read about Wayward Seed's Adam Welly and his ideas on becoming a better farmer. Or about how Val Jorgensen, of Jorgensen Farms, builds a passionate team. There is an article describing how Luna Burger connects their business to their community. Honeyrun Farm talks about how they work with their bees and keeping up with production. An article on how to make an urban farm thrive is focused on Swainway Urban Farm. And finally, Al Dolder, of Stonefield Naturals, talks about the importance of preserving heritage breeds.

"Living the Farmer's Life", written by Susie Wyshak, on pages 57 and 58, contains some short interviews on what two of our farmers do in order to prepare for market each week! Read this article and find out what Becky Barnes, of Dangling Carrot Farm, and Steve and Gretel Adams, of Sunny Meadows Flower Farm, do in order to prepare for a busy market Saturday!

What an issue! Join us at market this weekend, you will be happy you did!

Eight Simple Concepts Michael Pollan Puts Best
An EdibleExtra from Edible Columbus

"No matter how many times we've heard Michael Pollan's philosophies through reading his writings or listening to him give talks on the past, present and future state of our food, there's a way to his words that makes this complex issue seem a bit, simpler. We (Edible Columbus) recently had the honor of hearing Michael Pollan speak as part of The Jefferson Series at The McCoy Community Center for the Arts in New Albany. "

Here's few classic concepts Edible Columbus took away from his view on nutrition:
  1. You don't get fat on food you pray over
  2. Don't get your fuel from the same place your car does
  3. Eat foods that your grandmother would recognize
  4. Only eat the junk foods you make yourself
  5. Do as the French do
  6. There are lots of good reasons to eat other than just to stay alive
  7. Eat food, not too much, mostly plants
  8. Break the rules
